JDC Terms and Conditions

The JET Data Centre (JDC) is a repository of JET data available to all EUROfusion members and their collaborators. It contains both pulse-based, electronic data and off-line technical data. Tools and computer resource for analysing JET data are provided in the form of the Heimdall computing cluster. Data can also be accessed from outside Heimdall using approved authentication tools. At present, no distinction is made in the types of computer accounts available. Any account on the JDC can be used for remote data access, use of the Heimdall cluster and for access to the web-based portals to other JET information and data.

Access Requirements

  • Access is granted (subject to authorisation) to members of the EUROfusion Consortium and organisations collaborating with EUROfusion.

  • Staff of organisations with a collaboration agreement shall comply with the relevant provisions of the collaboration agreement.

  • People who move to a different employer must re-apply for access to the JDC or access will be suspended.

  • Access to the JDC networks will require users to authenticate with multi-factor authentication – currently this is RSA SecurID for which UKAEA will issue software tokens (exceptionally hardware tokens may be provided).

  • User accounts will be re-validated periodically, at least every two years.

  • Use of the JDC facilities requires UKAEA to maintain your name and contact details.

  • User access to the JDC is granted through individual accounts that may not be transferred or shared.

Conditions of Access

  • When logged onto the JDC, the user must not behave irresponsibly or illegally. Users must only use these computer systems for which they were granted access.

  • The UKAEA has an Acceptable Use of Computing Policy – this applies to the JDC.

  • The JDC computer systems and networks are a shared resource, and any unauthorised use denies service to others. Users must be responsible when submitting processor intensive jobs, should not write unnecessarily large data files, and must not consume network bandwidth by transferring unnecessary amounts of data.

  • Users are required to respect and ensure the integrity of the JDC computer systems. They must keep passwords and security devices safe, and not disclose them to any third party. User must change any password or multi-factor authentication PIN codes which they believe may have been compromised and also inform UKAEA as soon as they are aware of this.

  • A user may not pass JET data to a third party. All persons wishing access to such data must be properly authorised by the JDC librarian.

  • Users of the JET data must accept that the data and results are produced through the shared effort of many people. All derived results from JET data must be written back to the system as ‘user’ Processed Pulse Files (PPFs), to allow others to benefit and to prevent duplication of effort.

  • Any publications based on research carried out using the JDC data or computer resources are subject to the EUROfusion publication rules.

Access rights to the JDC may be revoked if a user is found to be in breach of the terms of the user agreement as set out in this document.

The latest version of these conditions of access and information on access to the JDC is available at users.jetdata.eu. For questions or help, please send an email to support@it.jetdata.eu.
