Accessing the JET Data Centre

Users can access the JDC remotely using NoMachine (the preferred method) or Virtual Private Network (VPN). Note that you must agree to the JDC Terms and Conditions before using the provided services.

NoMachine

To connect with NoMachine to the Heimdalls:

  • Install NoMachine.

  • Configure your NoMachine application with a new connection to nx001.jetdata.eu

  • Start the new connection in NoMachine and enter your username and password.

  • If those are entered correctly, you will then be prompted for either of:

    • Your RSA SecurID 4 digit PIN + one time password from your token.

    • Your Microsoft MFA one time password (for UKAEA users who don’t have RSA SecurID).

Connecting to Solaris sessions from JDC Heimdall

VNC sessions to the Solaris systems (or at least to a chooser) can be instantiated using one of the following:

  • xvnc public.jet.uk # For an off-line session (no authorisation is needed for these)

  • xvnc on.jet.uk # For a session on the JET Operational Network (these will need to be authorised by the CODAS Duty Officer)

The size of the session can be specified using the following flags:

  • –f # full screen

  • -p [percentageOfScreen] # for example, to use 90% of the screen use -p 90

  • -g [desiredGeometry] # specified as XxY, “full” or “max”, the latter is the default; for example -g 1920x1080

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

To connect using the VPN:

  • Install Forticlient (if not already installed).

  • Configure a new connection to vpn.jetdata.eu using port 943.

  • Connect to the new JDC VPN and enter your username.

  • Your password is then:

    • If you use RSA SecurID: your 4 digit PIN + one time password from your token.

    • If you use Microsoft MFA (UKAEA users who don’t have RSA SecurID): your normal JDC password. Once entered, you will be further prompted for your Microsoft MFA one time password.
